Animal Facts II

  • The largest snakes in the world, anacondas can grow to 550 pounds (227 kilograms).



  • Found throughout southern Africa, Aardvarks use their keen sense of smell to sniff out their favorite food—termites.



  • Wings spread, this Adélie penguin waddles through an Antarctic colony. Its black tail gives it a tuxedo-like appearance. 





  • African elephants are the largest of Earth's land mammals. Their enormous ears help them to keep cool in the hot African climate.


 
  • Fiercely protective of his pride, or family unit, male lions patrol a vast territory normally covering about 100 square miles (260 square kilometers).

 
  • Known as African wild, painted, or Cape hunting dogs, these endangered canines closely resemble wolves in their pack-oriented social structure.


  • Wide-winged and long-lived, albatrosses are rarely seen on land, preferring to stay out on the ocean except to mate and raise their young.


  • The largest of all the gars, this megafish earns its name with a wide, crocodilian head and rows of sharp teeth.
